Dombås wardrobe: How to add more shelves and drawers

We needed a budget wardrobe, so when we saw DOMBÅS wardrobe on sale for 79€ we got one. It was later, at home, when we realized that our children had more clothes than we remembered, and we were going to need some drawers.

I measured the inside of the right part of the DOMBÅS wardrobe (the one with the shelves) and went back to IKEA with not much hope, looking for something to fit in, and … EUREKA! The measurements of the STUVA frames were exactly the same size so I got some STUVA GRUNDLIG items and they did the trick.

Items used:
  • 1 DOMBÅS wardrobe
  • 1 STUVA GRUNDLIG shelf
  • 4 STUVA GRUNDLIG wire baskets
  • 2 OBSERVATÖR clip-on baskets
  • 8 shelf supports
  • 1 extendable clothes rail
  • Some pointed screws

Adding shelves and drawers to the DOMBÅS wardrobe

First I took the DOMBÅS shelves and assembled the middle one in its place, divided the upper space in three and with the help of the shelf supports placed the other two.

Then I assembled the STUVA GRUNDLIG wire basket rails aligned at the back and leaving 14,5cm between each other and the bottom. For the STUVA GRUNDLIG shelf I calculated another 2,5cm on top of it all.

As the screws that come with the STUVA GRUNDLIG items are flat pointed I used some pointed ones to make everything easier.

I added another lower clothes rail (from another store) for making it more kid friendly and almost three years of everyday use can confirm it is sturdy.

Adding a pair of Observatör clip-on baskets gives you even more storage space.

Now I am looking for some same size, same style cabinet to fit on top of it all. Any idea?
