Hi, my name is Dominik and I created this hack for a lovely spice organizer or spice stairs, as I like to call it. It uses no other materials except 2 IKEA BEKVÄM spice racks.
Materials:
Tools:
- Drill
- Dril bit
Steps to hacking a Spice Organizer
Assemble both BEKVÄM spice racks.
Place the BEKVÄM spice racks one on top of the other, leaving enough room for the front row of spices. Make two marks where both racks will intersect each other.
Then, take one of the spice racks and disassemble it.

Place the bottom panel of the disassembled rack on the top on the other rack which is still complete. Align it to the marks you made in the earlier step.
Now drill through the existing hole from the bottom panel of rack 1 into the side panel of rack 2.
You will get a new hole in the other rack.
Next, get two screws and join the top rack to the bottom rack.
Lastly, assemble the top rack as usual.
The last thing you need to do is to fill the spice organizer with your favourite spices. And just like that, you have a double tiered spice organizer.
If you’re afraid of the spice organizer toppling or the bottles of spices falling behind, place the rack against the kitchen wall or the back of your kitchen cabinet. That should keep everything neatly lined up and in place.
With the elevation, it’s so much easier to read the labels on the second row.
You can also choose to paint the BEKVÄM spice organizer to match your kitchen if you want to.
