FROSTA G: Hack a Garden Bar Cart for outdoor entertaining

Hello IKEAhackers! I’d like to introduce you to a garden bar cart that I made from IKEA FROSTA stools that we all love so much.

What I used for my garden bar cart:
  • FROSTA stool x 2
  • LAMPLIG cutting board x 1
  • PROPPMATT cutting board x 1
  • TORKAD paper towel holder x 1
  • Custom-made metal (stainless steel) parts: shims, corners, handle overlays, a pipe
  • Tapping and wooden screws, nuts, couplers
  • A clamp, a screwdriver, a drill and a saw

How the garden bar cart was created

On the IKEAhackers website, there is a ton of FROSTA hacks.

When I came across the work “Draisienne bike” by Andreas Bhend and Samuel N. Bernier an idea hit me to make a table on wheels.

So, first, I measured the FROSTA, made a couple of sketches and went on to model the garden bar cart.

After I figured out the basic measurements, I turned to my father’s colleagues at a local workshop and made the steel corners, shims and handle overlays.

Also, I had a pipe made there. It plays a strengthening and support role after tightening the nuts.

I’m not sharing the exact measurements on purpose. You can make the clamping and axle differently, in a way that suits you better.

This is how some parts are made using a 3-D printer: See it on Thingverse.

On the underside of the middle section of the cart, there is a wine glass holder. I have already published the hack in here.

Actually, you can add a lot of extra things from IKEA to the garden bar cart. Have fun and accessorize where you see fit.

Finally, it is not necessary to use cutting boards as the table-top and the shelf. You can replace them with some thicker plywood if you wish.

You can find even more info here: (for example, there’s a video explaining why the cart is called FROSTA-G).
